There’s an old
saying we’ve all heard—“Laughter is the best medicine.” Interestingly,
the Bible said it long before science confirmed it. In Proverbs 17:22 we
read: “A cheerful heart is good
medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
I remember a
time when everything around me felt heavy—work pressures, family
responsibilities, and unexpected challenges. I felt drained, almost like my
spirit was weighed down. But one evening, while sitting with loved ones,
someone cracked a silly joke. We all laughed until tears rolled down our
cheeks. In that moment, I felt lighter, as though God Himself had placed His
healing hand on my heart.
That’s the
power of joy. It doesn’t erase our struggles, but it changes how we walk
through them. A cheerful heart doesn’t come from ignoring pain, but from
trusting God’s promises in the middle of it. Joy is rooted in knowing that He
is in control, even when we are not.
On the other
hand, when discouragement and bitterness take hold, it’s like life is being
drained out of us. Scripture says it “dries up the bones.” And isn’t that true?
A heart weighed down with negativity leaves us tired, hopeless, and empty.
The good news
is this: we can choose joy. We can cultivate a cheerful heart by remembering
God’s blessings, practicing gratitude, and leaning on His strength. Nehemiah
8:10 reminds us: “The joy of the
Lord is your strength.”
So the next
time you feel weighed down, pause and let your heart smile. Share a laugh,
encourage someone, thank God for His goodness. You’ll discover that joy is more
than a feeling—it’s God’s medicine for the soul.
Have a Blessed
Day
Shalom!!
